One Life. Many Experiences. Positive Ripples.
One Life. Many Experiences. Positive Ripples.
Written By Todd Mason
I’m beginning a new chapter.
Not another reinvention.
More like bringing the pieces together.
Adventure. Family. Building. Business. Boats. Travel. Success. Failure. People. Nature. And a ridiculous number of ideas.
For years they looked like separate chapters.
Now I can see the thread.
Experience becomes valuable when we use it to help somebody else.
So every couple of weeks I’m going to share one short story from the journey.
Some will be useful.
Some thoughtful.
Some probably ridiculous.
Hopefully all of them leave a little positive ripple.
Because we’re only here once.
We may as well make the ride interesting.
Welcome to Ripples. 🌊❤️

Different Is Good
Different Is Good

I’ve rarely taken the conventional route.
Sometimes that’s been brilliant.
Sometimes it’s been expensive. 😂
But after decades of building things on land, on water and on wheels, one lesson has stuck:
Different isn’t the problem. Unmanaged risk is.
New materials. New construction systems. New businesses. New ideas.
We shouldn’t be frightened of doing things differently.
We should bring enough experience around the idea to make different work.
That’s increasingly where I see my role today.
Helping good people turn ambitious ideas into something practical, buildable and real.
Dream different. Then de-risk it.

Build for Humans
Build for Humans
I’ve spent decades around boats, houses, hotels, construction sites and renewable systems.
And somewhere in all the technology, we’ve made buildings incredibly complicated.
But shelter has a very simple job.
Help humans thrive.
Fresh air.
Clean water.
Natural light.
Comfort.
Healthy materials.
Nature.
Community.
And a place where you actually enjoy being.
A building isn’t truly sustainable because somebody calculated an energy rating.
It’s successful when the people inside it are healthier and happier because it exists.
Build for life, not just compliance. 🌱

Fill Your Cup First
Fill Your Cup First
For years I thought giving more meant doing more for everyone else.
I’m learning something different.
You can’t sustainably give from an empty cup.
Health first.
Then family.
Then friends.
Then work, projects, dreams and everything else we’re trying to create.
Looking after yourself isn’t selfish. It’s maintenance for the human being responsible for everything else.
Sleep. Move. Eat well. Get outside. Laugh. Love somebody. Do something completely pointless because it’s fun.
Then go change the world.
Cup first. Ripple second. ❤️

The University of Life
The University of Life
I never followed a particularly straight road.
I became a shipwright, travelled the world, snowboarded mountains, raced deserts, built businesses, renovated a hotel, built homes and made more than a few expensive mistakes along the way.
Twenty-seven trips around the world became my university.
And I’ve realised something:
Experience doesn’t become wisdom just because we lived it. It becomes wisdom when we reflect on it and share it.
The wins matter.
The failures probably taught me more.
So don’t hide the messy chapters.
They might eventually become the most valuable pages in your story.
Live it. Learn from it. Share it. 🌊

Bring Back the Fun:)
Bring Back the Fun
Somewhere along the way, adults got very serious.
Business became serious. Health became serious. Building became serious. Even personal growth became another job.
I’ve spent a lot of my life chasing mountains, oceans, businesses, crazy ideas and adventures. Some worked beautifully. Some absolutely didn’t.
But one lesson keeps coming back:
If there’s no joy in the journey, something needs adjusting.
Fun isn’t irresponsible. It gives us energy. Energy creates movement. And movement creates possibility.
So whatever you’re building today—your health, your family, your business or your next adventure—leave some room for fun.
That’s today’s ripple. ❤️
